‘Technical Error’ sees Vodafone overcharge roaming customers

Vodafone has apologised to customers for a technical error which has led to customers roaming outside of the UK being hit with bills of up to £10,000 and suspended services.

As reported by the BBC, notifications were sent to customers abroad saying that they had racked up excessive bills or that they had exceeded their data allowance despite evidence to the contrary. Some had their accounts suspended entirely – leaving them unable to contact Vodafone to resolve the issue.

Whilst Vodafone have blamed a technical error and apologised for the issue, it led to significant stress and inconvenience for many customers. Due to the complexity of billing structures, it is not that unexpected that such an incident could occur. Anyone familiar with telecommunications billing or similar complex services, will be aware that such issues can arise occasionally.

  • Cancelled services still being charged.
